Isn't Autumn beautiful? This painting was inspired in the Hudson Valley, at Locust Grove, the home of Samuel Morse, the man who discovered the telegraph. There are woods, but there is also an expansive grassy field that overlooks the Hudson. I was struck by the singularity of one translucent tree, while other trees, in early October, still remained green. I attempted to emulate the neo-impressionists in capturing the luminosity of the tree. I hope you get a chance to experience Fall color. It is so magnificent, but alas, ephemeral. Perhaps, that is why it affects us so poignantly.
