Lady With A Cup Of Tea
I saw the excellent show, "Degeneerate Art: The Attack On Modern Art In Nazi Germany, 1937" at the Neue Galerie in New York City (from March 13-June 30, 2014). The art that was banned was great, free, expressive art. In one room, there were many empty spaces, to account for the great paintings that were removed from the museum and hidden in a monastery. We must never take artistic expression for granted. What does that have to do with my painting of a woman with a cup of tea? Directly, I don't know. But I was very inspired by the exhibit and decided to break out and express myself more. This painting is the result. I have a long relationship with tea (see my open salon blog on tea and teacups (http://open.salon.com/blog/pam_malone). In this painting I want to express, the soothing and mysterious help that can come from a cup of tea. Would that we lived in such a simple and calm world, and not one where art and artists can be persecuted.
