Every summer I wait with great anticipation to see the great blue heron. There are 2 places walking distance from my home, the great creek and the small lake. I keep going, looking and waiting. Once I was actually walking on the railroad tracks when the great blue heron appeared and walked with me! Amazingly that was around Thanksgiving, though they are expected to leave earlier. But this great blue heron liked it enough in New Jersey to postpone his trip south.
What I admire about this majestic bird, is its preference for solitude. Just one heron, alone, gazing into the crystal waters, content with all that is. It is a portrait I like to internalize and remember.
