My art is based on my imagination, what I see in front of me, or sometimes on a photo I have taken. I don't usually use someone else's photograph, but I made an exception this time. My son, Joe T. Malone, an exceptional nature photographer, published a book of his wildlife photos. In looking through it, I saw a wonderful photo of a deer, who was reclining in the grass, totally enjoying the view, like anyone of us would have done, if we'd found ourselves in Colorado on a beautiful summer day. I was struck by the intimacy of the photo, the deer's pose, attitude and gaze. I used Acrylic to bring out the strong colors I wanted to express.
