A beautiful day at the park/zoo. We rode a kiddy train. Saw farm animals and exotic birds. But the mountain lion was the heart breaker. A majestic animal, used to climbing mountains, was in a small jail cell, as wide eyed children and adults looked in with curiosity, smiling, chewing popcorn, not feeling the pain. Then the mountain roared and showed his teeth. Yes I was scared, but also empathetic. In this painting I have tried to capture his rage, and dare I say, there are moments when all of us have felt caged and wanted to roar. How lucky we are, though, if we are physically free to roam as we please.
